Clan tournament a resounding success

The Clan basketball tournament just wrapped up this past Saturday as the 24th annual tourney ran from January 8-11 at the George Brown Rec Centre in Skidegate. There were many hard fought battles that were so close that they were decided by a single basket throughout the tournament. But it was the Juus Clan who had come out on top 81-72 in the men’s division to avenge their loss to the Ts’aahl ‘Laanas clan from up north after they defeated Juus earlier that day 74-69.

In the women’s and kid’s games, the players were divided into teams of eagles and ravens and faced each other once a day for 3 out of the 4 days of the tournament. In the kid’s division, the eagles dominated each game as they handily took the series 3-0 after winning the final game 61-11. In the women’s division, it was a little more closely contested than the kids as each team split the first two games and lead up to the final tie-breaker Saturday evening with the Raven ladies easily taking game 3 with a final score of 84-67.

No individual awards this tournament — just the coveted Clan Tourney champion sweaters.
