Home turf brings zone titles to Haida Gwaii rugby teams

Playing rugby on your home turf feels like a boost of energy, like nothing can bring you down. There is no waking up at the crack of dawn to catch a freezing ferry and compete on little sleep. No rushing to grab food and supplies before stores close. Instead, we could wake up, take our time getting ready and head out the door rested and ready to play, with fewer travel costs to worry about.

How do you explain an earthquake to a three-year-old?

On the afternoon of May 12, many people in Tlell and Lawnhill felt the 4.0 earthquake. First came the small shakes, just enough to realize it was an earthquake. Then a harder jolt hit the whole house. That was the moment I jumped out of bed and grabbed my son.

Regenerative practices breathe new life into forests

Forests function through interconnections between trees, plants, mosses, wildlife, fish, fungi and soil. Suzanne Simard’s new book When the Forest Breathes: Renewal and Resilience in the Natural World digs deep, literally, to unearth science documenting how industrial logging disrupts and frays these connections.
