Port Clements has advanced to the second stage of a provincial program that could bring a professional-quality mini soccer pitch to the community.
The Village submitted an Expression of Interest for the Mini Peaks Legacy Project in July, with council confirming the proposed site would be Community Park.
At a Sept. 3 special meeting, the project returned to council under the heading “Mini Peaks Legacy Project – Phase 2,” indicating Port Clements had moved beyond the initial application stage.
Under the program guidelines, Phase 2 is reserved for applicants shortlisted from the first round. Communities reaching this stage are asked to provide more detailed information about community need, programming plans, financial capacity and the technical readiness of the proposed site.
The technical review can include geotechnical and environmental assessments, confirmation of funding for site preparation and a construction schedule. The proposed site must also meet size, access and long-term maintenance requirements.
The Mini Peaks Legacy Project is a FIFA World Cup 2026 legacy initiative backed by the Province of B.C., viaSport and Vancouver Whitecaps FC. The program plans to install 18 to 20 mini-pitches across the province.
Advancing to Phase 2 does not mean Port Clements has been selected for a pitch. Final approval would come after further technical and community assessment.
