Kris Olsen has been elected mayor of Daajing Giids following the Oct. 17 municipal election, defeating Jim LeMottee in a two-candidate race that saw more than half of the village's estimated eligible voters cast ballots.

Olsen, who previously served as mayor before losing the 2022 election to Lisa Pineault, received 258 votes, representing 60.3 per cent of ballots cast. LeMottee received 166 votes, or 38.8 per cent. The result marks Olsen's return to the mayor's office after four years.

The election also brought significant changes to village council, with Bill Beamish, Jennifer Rutt, Kim Claggett and Hayl Zacks securing the four available councillor positions.

Beamish led the six-candidate council race with 325 votes, receiving support on 75.9 per cent of ballots cast. Rutt followed with 272 votes, narrowly ahead of Claggett with 271. Zacks secured the fourth council seat with 254 votes, or 59.3 per cent.

Incumbent councillor Alanah Mountifield received 201 votes, while outgoing mayor Lisa Pineault, who ran for a council seat, received 176 votes. Neither secured a seat on the incoming council.
