WhoWe Are

Haida Gwaii News is a locally owned and operated independent newspaper dedicated to bringing the people of Haida Gwaii the news that matters most to them.

The idea for the paper was born in 2019 when Stacey Brzostowski and her husband, Vince Brzostowski, envisioned a community-focused publication. After some initial planning, the project was set aside for a few years, but in early 2023, the couple reignited their passion for the idea. With a fresh plan in place, they moved full steam ahead, bringing on board former journalist Andrew Hudson as editor in early 2024. Stacey took on the role of publisher, while Vince designed and maintained the website and layout.

The first issue of Haida Gwaii News launched in June 2024 and was an immediate success, quickly becoming a trusted voice in the community. In the fall of 2024, Andrew moved on from the paper, and Stacey stepped into the editor role alongside her publishing duties. Today, the newspaper is a true labor of love, run by Stacey and Vince with the support of local columnists who contribute their voices to this entirely free publication.

Fueled by a deep commitment to local journalism and the people of Haida Gwaii, we continue to tell the stories that matter—because this is your news, your community, and your voice.
