Congratulations to everyone at Haida Gwaii News for relaunching a community paper on Haida Gwaii. In an era where actual newspapers are disappearing, it is a brave act to launch one. But it’s so needed as an antidote to the Facebook dumpster fire, which, in the absence of a paper, has become where many islanders have had to turn to find out what’s happening on Haida Gwaii.
Many of us remember the Observer. Kiki and I used to fight over who would get to read it first. Always the first place to check would be the letters to the editor. We owe Jeff and Diane King a huge haawa for informing and entertaining us for decades.
We need well researched news, with thoughtful editorials and updates from community columnists. A call out to islanders — subscribe and support this paper.
