The Village of Daajing Giids closed out the season in style Sept. 12 with its End of Summer Street Party.
Celebrating the Summer Street Party
Causeway Road was closed to traffic and filled with vendors, children’s foot races and games, and the sounds of live music. The beloved local band Bad Fish and others kept the block party lively, with people dancing until sundown.
The Village also used the gathering to unveil a bench and tree in honour of Margaret Ramsey, a well-known business owner remembered by some longtime patrons and friends. The plaque on the bench reads, “come and get em,” a nod to her café and the phrase she was known for.

The tree, transplanted from the Funk property near the old hospital, has struggled to take root in its new location. During the dedication, Mayor Lisa Pineault gently joked that the community may need to consider replacing it in the future.

Despite that, the dedication was a heartfelt moment. Neighbours paused from the festivities to gather at the corner, where the bench and tree were unveiled. The gesture added a thoughtful note to an otherwise lively day, blending reflection with celebration and marking the spot as a new place for people to come together.
