Telus has confirmed that all services are now restored.
A Telus telecommunications outage affecting several South End communities on Haida Gwaii was caused by accidental damage to the company’s fibre lines in Tlell, TELUS confirmed Wednesday.
The outage began shortly after 12:30 p.m. Tuesday when an arborist cut through the cable, disrupting internet, TV, mobile service, home phones and access to emergency services in Tlell, Daajing Giids, Skidegate and Sandspit.
Telus said technicians flew in Wednesday morning and accessed the damaged section of line to complete repairs.
Telus confirmed Wednesday afternoon that all services have now been fully restored.
The company said it is prioritizing the restoration of emergency and wireless services and expects full service to be restored by the end of the day.
During the outage, the Daajing Giids RCMP detachment posted on social media that the station would remain staffed so residents could attend in person if they were unable to reach police by phone.“We know how critical connectivity is for our customers and thank them for their patience and understanding,” Telus told Haida Gwaii News.
