Holiday Season Begins with Celebrations Across Haida Gwaii

Communities across Haida Gwaii have been welcoming the holiday season with lights, markets, meals and gatherings over the past two weeks.

Daajing Giids marked its annual Light Up the Square event on December 5, which also recognized 20 years since the village’s incorporation, bringing families together in Spirit Square for festive lights and community connection.

The Haida Heritage Centre hosted its winter market on Saturday, December 6, while Sandspit followed with its Holiday Market and tree lighting on Sunday, December 7, drawing residents downtown to kick off the Christmas season.

In Masset, holiday decorations and the community Christmas concert have added to the seasonal atmosphere, while island wide, community dinners, senior lunches and holiday meals continue to bring people together. From shared tables to glowing trees, the season is well underway across Haida Gwaii.
