Last minute equalizer highlights Islanders’ return to Prince Rupert tournament

The Haida Gwaii Islanders headed to Prince Rupert for the annual Old Timers Tournament on November 8 and 9, playing four games over two days against a strong northern field.

The Islanders opened the weekend with a 5-5 tie against Prince Rupert, earning the draw with a last minute goal. Alan Moore was named player of the game.

In their second game, the Islanders held a 2-0 lead before Smithers climbed back to take a 4-2 win. Goaltender Mike Allen earned player of the game for that matchup.

Day two brought two Terrace teams. The Islanders fell 5-1 in their third game, with player of the game going to Terry Wallace Behn. The final contest was a 6-2 loss to Terrace 50 plus, with Steve Wallace receiving player of the game.

After the tournament, al.moop on Instagram explained how it went at during the games. “Got into some penalty trouble and ran into some hot goaltending Saturday and Sunday but we fought hard and had fun and looked really sharp in the new alternate tarps,” he said. “Incredible group of guys, 0-3-1 on the season and loving every second of it.”

Last year the Islanders finished the same tournament with one win, one loss and one overtime loss.
