Magnitude 6.5 earthquake strikes south of Haida Gwaii

    Earthquakes Canada says an earthquake with a magnitude of 6.5 struck south of Haida Gwaii at 3:22 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 15.

    No tsunami is expected. Haida Guardians reported feeling the earthquake at SG̱ang Gwaay. Others reported feeling a shake in Port Clements.

    The epicentre of the quake was about 39 km southeast of the Cape Saint James lighthouse. It had an estimated depth of 10 km.
