The Village of Masset is looking to bring its online presence into the modern era with a new municipal website. At a special meeting on Aug. 29, council approved a Gwaii Trust grant application that, if successful, will cover the costs of developing and launching the site.
Masset’s current website is dated and difficult to navigate, with limited information for residents and visitors. Council members said a redesign would improve accessibility, transparency, and communication between the village and the public. A more functional platform would allow easier posting of agendas and minutes, quicker updates on service notices, and better access to bylaws, applications and community resources.
The new site is also expected to meet modern accessibility standards, ensuring people who rely on screen readers and other adaptive technology can use it effectively.
Digital infrastructure has become a growing issue for small northern communities, where outdated sites can hinder everything from grant compliance to resident engagement. A successful grant would allow Masset to contract professional design and technical support, creating a platform that can be maintained over the long term.
Council expects to hear back from Gwaii Trust on the application later this year.
