A local resident is asking Masset council to think about turning the village’s existing library into a corner park after it closes.

Veronika Higlister works at the Masset library branch and holds a degree in landscape architecture.

In a letter to Masset council, she suggested that the iconic log-cabin building, which is falling into disrepair, could have its roof and floor removed so only the log walls remain.

“The logs can be banded to ensure public safety and the walls will create different microclimates for a variety of plantings,” Higlister wrote.

Higlister said the planted log walls would be a welcome transition for one of Masset’s iconic buildings, and the park would not cost much to build.
