Sandspit Community Society launches virtual recreation pilot

The Sandspit Community Society will launch “Sandspit Connected” this month, a pilot program testing live virtual streaming of recreation classes from Earth Temple to the Sandspit Community Hall. Tech installation is scheduled for Jan. 12, with programming announcements to follow. The project aims to expand access to recreation programming for local residents during the winter months.

Spring Break kids camp planned for March

The Sandspit Community Society is organizing a Spring Break kids camp for March 2026 at the Sandspit Community Hall. Details and registration information are expected in the coming weeks.

Sandspit Harbour Society to hold AGM by end of March

The Sandspit Harbour Society plans to hold its annual general meeting no later than March 31, 2026. Membership is open to individuals who meet at least three of four criteria: owning property on Moresby Island, living on the island at least six months per year, earning a living on Moresby Island, or holding Canadian citizenship.

Gwaii Trust announces major grant program changes for 2026

Gwaii Trust Society has announced several changes to its 2026 grant programs, including increasing the residency requirement from two to five consecutive years. Athlii Gwaii Legacy grants will open in January, while the Major Contributions Grant will not be offered this year. Intake dates for the Community Innovation Grant have changed, continuing education requirements have been relaxed, and standard rates have been updated to align with provincial benchmarks.

Sandspit Visitor Centre confirms winter hours and flight cancellations

The Sandspit Visitor Centre is open Sunday to Friday from 2 to 3:30 p.m. in January, and is closed on Saturdays due to no scheduled flights. Air Canada cancellations this month include Jan. 7, 13, and 20. Gwaii Trust grant specialist Michelle Prouty will be available at the centre on Jan. 19 from 1 to 3 p.m. for public consultations.
