Tamara Davidson, Laanas, will be the BC NDP candidate for North Coast-Haida Gwaii for the next provincial election on Oct. 19.
Davidson was elected by members of the local BC NDP riding association after a short campaign on Saturday, June 29 after Jennifer Rice, the incumbent MLA for North Coast-Haida Gwaii, announced she would not run again this fall.
Teri Foster, a nurse and Prince Rupert city councillor who represents northern B.C. nurses at the BC Nurses Union, also put her name forward for the BC NDP nomination.
“I look forward to speaking with you all over the coming weeks and months and hearing about your hopes for the future of North Coast-Haida Gwaii,” Davidson said in a social-media post after the vote. A Haida with a 28-year career in the federal civil service who was recently on the Council of the Haida Nation negotiating team regarding title, Tamara Davidson is now getting set for a busy summer campaign.
Chris Sankey, W’Tsin, will be doing the same.
A Tsimshian from Lax Kw’alaams, Sankey owns an energy-sector consulting firm, Blackfish Enterprises, and is a partner in Blackfish Industries, a heavy civil construction company.
Neither the BC United nor the Green Party has selected a candidate yet for the North Coast-Haida Gwaii riding, which includes Haida Gwaii and Prince Rupert as well as Bella Bella, Bella Coola, and Lax Kw’alaams.
