Water and sewer rate bylaws move forward at DG council

Council advanced several utility-related bylaws at its Dec. 8 meeting, giving first and second readings to amendments affecting water rates, sewer rates, and water frontage charges.

The changes are part of the Village’s 2026 planning and update existing bylaws rather than creating new ones. All three bylaws will return to council in January for third reading and potential adoption.

Council gave first and second readings to an amendment to the Village’s water rates bylaw, which would increase monthly charges across residential and non-residential categories. A separate bylaw amending sewer rates also received first and second readings, replacing the existing rate schedule with higher monthly charges for residential and non-residential properties.

Under the proposed changes, residential water and sewer rates would increase modestly on a monthly basis.

Council also advanced an amendment to the water frontage tax bylaw. Unlike the water and sewer rates, this amendment would reduce the per-metre frontage rate for 2026 and update the total taxable frontage figure used to calculate the levy.

First and second readings allow council to introduce and debate bylaw changes but do not finalize them. No final decision on the amended rates was made at the Dec. 8 meeting. All three bylaws must still receive third reading and be formally adopted before any changes take effect.
