A light earthquake was recorded off the coast of Haida Gwaii on Monday afternoon, but officials say there is no risk of tsunami or damage.
Natural Resources Canada reported a magnitude 4.2 earthquake struck at 1:45 p.m. PT about 75 kilometres west of Daajing Giids, formerly Queen Charlotte, on Graham Island.
The agency said the earthquake was lightly felt in some parts of Haida Gwaii but caused no damage.
Emergency Management BC confirmed there was no tsunami expected as a result of the quake.
“There are no reports of damage, and none would be expected,” Natural Resources Canada said in a statement.
The United States Geological Survey recorded the earthquake at a depth of 10 kilometres.
