Juus claimed the men’s championship at the 25th Annual Clan Tournament with a 56–50 win over Ts’aahl in Saturday night’s final at the George Brown Rec Centre in Skidegate.
The four-day tournament ran Jan. 7 to 10 and brought together nine men’s teams representing Haida clans and communities from across Haida Gwaii, along with women’s and kids divisions that played throughout the week.
Juus advanced through the upper half of the men’s bracket with wins earlier in the week, including a quarterfinal victory on Thursday night and a semifinal win on Saturday afternoon to secure their place in the championship.
Ts’aahl reached the final from the lower half of the draw, defeating Ts’aahl Laanas 82–73 on Saturday afternoon to book their spot in the title game.
The men’s championship tipped off at 9:30 p.m. Saturday, closing out the tournament with Juus holding on for the six-point victory.
In the women’s division, the Eagles and Ravens faced off in a best-of-three series that stretched across the tournament schedule. The Eagles opened the series with a 47–44 win on Wednesday, followed by a 52–39 victory on Thursday.
The championship game was played Saturday night, where the Eagles secured the series with a 66–52 win to complete the sweep and claim the women’s title.
The kids division also wrapped up Saturday, with the Eagles and Ravens meeting twice over the weekend after opening play Friday afternoon.
Across all divisions, the tournament schedule included 16 games over four days, with early evening tip-offs giving way to late-night semifinals and finals as the brackets narrowed.
