Local Report

On March 18, the Daajing Giids RCMP were called to a residence on Oceanview Drive after a complainant stated they feared for their safety due to an incident with their partner. The complainant disclosed an assault, and the suspect was arrested and released on conditions not to reside at the residence, have no contact with the victim, and attend court in April 2026.

On March 23, a report of a “take vehicle without consent” was received by the Daajing Giids RCMP. Through investigation, it was determined that a mobility scooter had been taken without consent, although its whereabouts were known. The RCMP helped locate the vehicle and spoke with the individual who took it, and it was later returned.

Daajing Giids RCMP is urging residents to stay alert to ongoing frauds as March marks Fraud Prevention Month.

Investigators have noted a significant increase in impersonation-based scams in which fraudsters pose as officials and pressure victims into transferring money.

The core message to the public this year is straightforward: If you didn’t initiate it, don’t facilitate it.

“Many scams depend on catching people off guard, or pretending to have ‘accidentally’ deposited a large sum,” says Sgt. Chris Manseau, Detachment Commander. “If anyone contacts you or deposits a sum unexpectedly, whether through a bank transfer or cryptocurrency, that’s a big red flag. No legitimate agency will demand money in this way.”

The Daajing Giids RCMP recommends residents keep a close eye on their monthly financial transactions, as many scams start with a micro amount, typically under $1, being removed without permission to confirm an account is active, followed by larger unauthorized withdrawals.

All scams should be reported to the local RCMP and can also be reported to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre.
