A water main break near the daycare in Skidegate has left residents of the Heights area without water and forced the closure of Sḵ ́aadg̱aa Naay Elementary School on Thursday, Nov. 5.
The Skidegate Band Council issued an urgent notice advising residents that the entire Heights area would be without water until repairs are completed.
In an update, the council said machinery would be on site at 8 a.m. Thursday to begin repairs and restore water service as soon as possible.
Residents without water pressure are being advised to turn off the breaker to their hot water tanks and avoid using hot water until service is restored.
School District No. 50 (Haida Gwaii) confirmed that Sḵ ́aadg̱aa Naay Elementary would be closed Thursday due to the water main break. The district said an update would be provided once the situation is resolved.
No estimated time for the restoration of water service has been announced.
Residents are encouraged to watch for further updates from the Skidegate Band Council and School District No. 50.
