Island ball players join Hitmen for strong run at Kamloops tournament

Six Haida Gwaii ball players joined the Terrace Hitmen at the Octoberfest “Dash for the Cash” tournament in Kamloops over the Thanksgiving weekend, October 11–13. The lineup included Hyland Fraser, Damon Fladmark, Darcy Pearson, Adrian Lowther, Erica Reid, and Rhea Botel.

The Hitmen went undefeated in round-robin play, finishing 3–0 with wins over Bada Boom (10–9), Cleats (28–3), and Basha (11–10). Their strong start placed them among the top 20 teams in the 50-team field.

The playoff round, however, was a quick exit. Under the single-elimination format, the Hitmen lost their first game to a sixth-place seed and were eliminated despite an otherwise perfect weekend.

“We had the opportunity to play under the lights which was a new experience for some of us,” said Hyland Fraser.
