The Village of Port Clements has confirmed that a community-wide boil water advisory remains in effect following a significant water main leak discovered on Oct. 29.

The leak, located on Bayview Drive, required a temporary shutdown of the municipal water system. A precautionary boil water advisory was subsequently issued for the entire community.

In an update issued Nov. 3, the Village confirmed that the advisory remained in place and warned residents that tap water was not safe to drink unless boiled.

Residents are advised to bring water to a rolling boil for at least one minute before using it for drinking, making ice, cooking, washing food or brushing their teeth. Alternatively, residents can use a safe source of drinking water.

The notice also recommends using hand sanitizer after washing hands.

The advisory will remain in effect until residents are officially notified otherwise. No timeline for lifting the advisory was provided in the Nov. 3 update.

Residents seeking further information can contact Northern Health's Public Health Protection office at 250-565-7322 or email PHP@northernhealth.ca.

Residents should monitor official Village of Port Clements communications for updates and confirmation that the advisory has been lifted.
